Welcome to College of Earth and Planetary Sciences (CEPS) at University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS).

The Earth is our common homeland. Yes, no doubt it is. Our scientific mission aims to understanding both the Earth’s interior and the surface in the past, the present and the future by using observations, experiments and computer simulation methods, and to make man live better.

CEPS is a national education and research center on earth science, which was built in 2002 but the precursor of this college is more than 40 years old. As the first director, I would like to draw your attention to some great changes occurred in this young college. Looking back on the last ten years, CEPS has undergone significant expansion. Currently over 50 full-time faculties work at CEPS including one member of Chinese Academy of Sciences, one member of “National thousands of plans” and two members of “100 Talents Program” sponsored by CAS. In addition, more than 300 part-time faculties at home and abroad were invited to give lectures covering a broad range of disciplines. In 2010, Key laboratory of computational geodynamics of CAS was built. CEPS has more than 700 graduate students from 24 training institutions, including CAS, China Earthquake Administration, China Meteorological Administration, State Oceanic Administration, State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping, Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, and other institutes.

CEPS has strong graduate programs and excellent experts in some area of geosciences; I encourage you to look through our website to learn more about our colleagues. I welcome you to join us to teach or pursue the earth science in this college.
